Sober October Journal Day 4

More babies born. Fall calving is my favorite
Hey I look like my mom!

I have found that writing early every morning is the best way to start my day and to reflect on the thoughts and challenges of the day before.

I’m not sure I can say that each day gets easier. I am sure that each day I realize just a little bit more how much sugar is in our daily lives. It is no wonder Type 2 Diabetes is such a massive issue in our country. Now I’m not saying that everyone shouldn’t enjoy some sugar every now and again. However, it doesn’t take long to realize how prevalent simple sugars are in our daily diet.

Yesterday, I had a couple more small wins I can celebrate. Like many people, I love a good donut. In Rolla, where I work, there is this excellent little donut shop. To express some gratitude, a patient of ours brought in half a dozen donuts to our pharmacy. What an incredible gesture. It was very difficult not to partake in that. Again, each day saying no becomes a little bit easier.

Yet another win came at home last evening. Cooper has been deep into the Harry Potter books. I have never read them but I know the effect they have had on pop culture and American society as a whole. Apparently there is something in the books called “Butter Beer.” To surprise Cooper, Keri found a recipe to make some butter beer and her and the boys had it last night. It showed me that I could still enjoy myself with the kids and not partake.
