Sober October Day 6

One more day down

I don’t have a lot of words for today but Im staying on the wagon. I’m pretty bleary eyed as I sit down to type this out this morning. My favorite book over the last few years has been “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. In that book, he talks about how if you make little changes each day, in no time you will have considerably changed your life with your new habits. Another concept this has applied to is the 5×5 workout program. In that program, you focus on 5 core lifts… squat, bench, deadlift, overhead press, and bent over rows. You start out by lifting a weight that is very easy to you on on each of those lifts. You work out 3 days per week and do 5 sets of 5 reps. Each day, you add 5 lbs to the reps and continue the same routine. Little increases in weight to make you a little bit stronger each day. Much like the 5×5 program, Milo of Croton in ancient Greece would train by carrying a newborn bull every day from the day of its birth until it reached maturity… getting a little bit stronger each day as the calf increased in size.

This is how we get better. Small, incremental changes to our lives. Adding just a little bit of weight, we get a little bit stronger. Each day I go through this challenge, that is how I feel. Just a little bit stronger each day.
