Latter Dad Saint Blog: Do we need religion?

I post this at the risk of being chastised

But I’m ok with that

This quote came from a talk by Ronald A. Rasband entitled “To Heal the World”

In this talk, Elder Rasband declared When religion is given the space and freedom to flourish, believers perform simple and sometimes heroic acts of service

I’ve heard much backlash aimed at organized religion over the last few years and I absolutely can understand that. But for me and my family, knowing we have a community of like minded families we know we can turn to in times of crisis is of the utmost importance!

We find that through our church we are able to find answers to life’s most difficult questions.

Why are we here? What is our purpose on earth? What is morally right?

We even have a perfect example of how we should live our lives.

All that being said, I believe that going to church is a personal decision and I will always fight to defend the right of EVERYONE to make that choice for themselves. We are all given the same agency and should make the decisions we feel are best for our family.

I post this for those who are on the fence about going to church. Maybe you had a bad experience growing up at church and you went away but now you feel something missing… or maybe you have never been to church and you don’t realize what you’re missing. Regardless of your reasons, I encourage those who are considering going to/back to church to consider moving forward with it. That there is a whole host of people who will welcome you with open arms. We need our churches to thrive ESPECIALLY IN OUR RURAL COMMUNITIES!!

There is no doubt you will share differences with some of your fellow congregants. However, I feel like that is the beauty of it is that we can have these differences and still be in community with one another .
